I talked to a customer earlier that wanted some details on the DSS axles for the 1995-1999 Dodge Neon.
So, I took some photos, and measurements and wanted to share the details with you guys.
In this post Ill be comparing the Fidanza performance axles for the 95-99 Neon, and the DSS or Driveshaft Shop level 3 axles for the 95-99 Neon.
The Fidanza axles are about $380 for the set, and DSS is $779 for the set. So, DSS is about twice the price for the pair.
Now, the details.
Fidanza just provides two axles, complete with cv joints, new boots.
DSS provides two axles, complete with cv joints, new boots, new hubs, and longer wheel studs.
Why is it that DSS provides new hubs and studs? Well, its because the DSS axle set has much larger hub splines, that wont fit into your factory hub splines. Also, the wheel hub nut threading and shaft is much larger as well.
Heres the specs:
DSS hub splines 1.12 inches in diameter
Fidanza hub splines .991 inches in diameter
Dss wheel hub nut threading .85 inches in diameter
Fidanza wheel hub nut threading .78 inches in diameter.
This means that the critical areas of the axle, are a solid 12-15% larger in diameter, making it more solid than the Fidanza, or your typical factory axle.
Heres some photos.
Dss axles have the green boots.
Notice how much larger the splines, and threading for the hub nut is on the DSS axles (green boots)
