More details on the MPx ported throttle body for the Dodge Dart/Fiat 500 with 1.4 Turbo engine

We’ve been asked for more details on the MPx ported drive by wire throttle body for the 1.4 Turbo engined Dodge Dart and Fiat 500.

So, here are more photos and explanation!

On the left is the stock drive by wire throttle body. At its smallest point its 1.73 inches in diameter.

The throttle body on the right is the MPx ported throttle body that is 1.86 inches in diameter.

In this photo you’ll also notice how the bore is much smoother, as well as the throttle plate mounting screw head is much smaller, and the threads that go through the blade stop flush and do not extend past the throttle plate.

In this photo we are measuring the inlet size of the stock intake manifold. The stock intake manifold has a diameter of 1.87 inches. So, there is not much of a point to bore the throttle body out much larger as it would neck back down again with the intake manifold. So, we are port matching the throttle body to the inner diameter of the stock intake manifold.

Please also note, that because the intake manifold inlet has thin walls, it can not be safely ported out much larger or the intake manifold walls might collapse.

So, in summary again:

– We take brand new Mopar OEM throttle bodies for the turbo 1.4 engine, and dissasemble them

– We bore out the inner diameter, and install a new larger butterfly plate

– We then install new lower profile butterfly plate screws

– Re-install everything, clean and test.

Doing this simple bolt on mod will improve throttle response and give you an additional 6 horsepower to the wheels!
