Our shipping department was packaging up a set of coated Mopar rod bearings, Mopar main bearings, and JE pistons for a customers 03-05 Dodge SRT4 today. I thought this would be a good time to snap a photo and share this cool product.
For those of you who arent familiar with coating internal engine bearings and friction surfaces, coating engine internals provides several benefits. Engine coatings can reduce wear, eliminate horsepower losses due to friction, and protect surfaces if oil pressure drops.
For this particular customer, we had Calico coatings coat the piston top to protect the piston from extreme temperatures and help deflect heat. Also, the piston side skirts were coated to reduce friction in the cylinder bore.
Here are some closeup photos. The black coating is whats called a dry film lubricant, and the gray coating on the piston top is a thermal barrier.
